MRS is a finalist for the 2026 Inovativos Award with modernization driven by the Genius AI Platform
MRS Logística was a finalist for the Inovativos 2026 Award in the Digital Modernization and Infrastructure category. The submitted case, developed in partnership with Squadra, shows how we conducted the modernization of the company's most critical railway system in 90 days, using our AI platform, Genius.
The real problem: critical systems cannot stop
Many infrastructure and logistics companies operate systems that have supported operations for over a decade. They work, but no one fully masters the business logic embedded in the code anymore.
In MRS's case, the system controls train circulation on one of the busiest stretches of Brazil's railway network. There were over 300,000 lines of code processing all logistics. The traditional legacy modernization methodology would mean stopping, risking operations, or even intensifying the risk of accidents.
The paradigm shift: Genius AI Modernization
The thesis is simple: when code is the only reliable documentation, AI should read the code before proposing any rewrite. Instead of starting from outdated documents, expert agents analyze the running system, map dependencies, and extract the real business logic.
In practice, this changes the order of work. Modernization no longer starts with the target architecture but with understanding what the system does today. The quality of the decision about where to apply AI and where to preserve human judgment becomes the basis of the process.
Through the Genius AI Modernization journey, Squadra conducted the modernization with AI, addressing the challenge through the entire software development lifecycle, from discovery to deploy.
In the discovery phase, intelligent agents analyzed the 300,000 lines of C++ code to reveal what the system actually did.
After that, modernization with AI followed four steps:
Dependency mapping, identifying what each system component calls and what depends on it;
Translation from C++ to C#/.NET, with semantic analysis and architectural patterns;
Validation by comparison of data between the old and new systems, using tools developed by the team itself;
Migration of the simplest components first, leaving the core for last to mature the tools before the most delicate stage.
On the MRS side, the operations department validated each delivery, ensuring that the modernization respected the rules of railway operations.
The 300,000 migrated lines already support 100% of users, distributed across four modules, with no incidents recorded after the switch. Today, the system ensures the operation of over 90 terminals, 700 locomotives, and 1,643 km of track.
The right question is: how much longer can your system wait?
The evolution of a critical system has no end date, and the plan must anticipate successive waves of maturity. MRS chose the Genius AI Modernization approach precisely because it is continuous and flexible, and now it has a modern, intelligent system that will support business scale for many years to come.
Seeing MRS among the finalists of the Inovativos 2026 award proves that legacy modernization is no longer a painful project with a start and end date, but rather a continuous, secure process integrated with the pace of business.
